Good news! more Americans are choosing to not eat meat!

There are approximately 800 federally inspected livestock slaughterhouses in the U.S. and about 1,900 state-inspected or custom facilities. That's down from nearly 10,000 meat processing plants in 1967, when the law mandating USDA inspection was passed.

Through a series of acquisitions, VanderSloot now operates Hawaii's two largest slaughterhouses: the Hawaii Meats plant on Oahu near Kapolei and the Hawaii Beef Processors plant at Pauiilo on the Big Island.
